Had food from Ces and Judy's at the opera. Great chicken salad sandwich. One of the best I've ever had but the gelato was mediocre and frost bitten.

I attended a professional group luncheon meeting Thursday. We were in the turret room, which was beautiful and well-appointed -- with a balcony. We had a green salad with two dressing offerings. It was fine. Entrée was chicken with white gravy (why?), rice pilaf and green beans. Each diner had a dinner roll and pat of butter on another small plate. I didn't try the roll. I scraped the gravy off the chicken as best I could without being obvious. The chicken was moist but rather bland. But that's chicken. The green beans were good, and had a little caramelized onion on them. The rice pilaf -- oh, well. Dessert was something that looked like a brownie with raspberry sauce and a raspberry (coulis?) piped in one corner. It was pretty. I took one bite. Service was extremely attentive with iced tea, water and coffee refills, which continued into the presentation. They did a great job of being unobtrusive.

This week I went back to Ces & Judy's for a St. Louis bloggers dinner to showcase the event space and food, and to promote their off-premises catering too. I didn't realize this, but they can offer catering at other venues and even for home parties. We were treated to a fabulous dinner in the round room. The food was wonderful. I especially liked the herbed beef tenderloin skewers with lemon caper aioli. Years ago I attended my nephews bar mitzvah at Ces & Judy's. We had access to both rooms. The outer round room where we had dinner was a nice space for people to step away from the music in the main ballroom and have a quiet conversation...and it also gave the 13 year olds a place to get away from the adults a bit. Inside the main ballroom there was plenty of space for table seating, the DJs and a dance floor. I really like that Ces & Judy's doesn't have a hotel banquet room feel. There is old world charm in these rooms. If you are planning a party, you should definitely check out the space.

I recently attended a blogger event at Ces & Judy's. At first I wasn't sure what to expect. Most catering companies that also have hosting venues usually use banquet halls or something similar. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of charm and personality that their location has. The room we were in was practically like a castle. A round room with a beautiful fireplace! The place settings were adorable and I was ready to taste the food! When it came out it smelled so good! The salad was probably my favorite, their dressing was amazing. We also had chicken marsala, another win in my book! Everything was flavorful and delicious. I love that you can have your event catered at their location or in the comfort of your home. The staff was so friendly and inviting. I would certainly think of Ces & Judy's when looking for a location or catering company. They go a step above the cold/bland reputation some catering companies can have. So glad they had us out!

There's a lot to be said for hotel food. And conference room food. For those of you who have been "lucky" enough to attend meetings or seminars outside of the office, you know what I mean. I have attended monthly meetings at Ces & Judy's for the past year and a half and can vouch for their food and service. It's definitely above average when you compare it to the craptacular meals I've been served at certain weddings or one-day seminars. But would I choose to eat here on my own? Probably not. The nice thing about their lunch service? The offer three courses: salad, entree, and dessert. Salads are pretty standard - really, it's kind of hard to mess that up! Entrees are so-so. Today our main course was a mysterious chicken covered in salsa and gravy - I'm guessing that was supposed to be a Fiesta Chicken? It didn't make me want to party... But the dessert usually leaves me with a better feeling about the place. Today we had cheesecake. Yay to cheesecake! For vegetarians, Ces & Judy's always has meatless options. And for those who are health conscious (or wary of chicken covered in gravy and salsa), they do have a Cobb salad that's worth trying. Again, if I was forced to host a sit-down luncheon or dinner for a large group, Ces & Judy's would probably be one of my first choices. The location is somewhat central, the actual meeting space is clean and welcoming, and the staff is very nice/well mannered. This just isn't your everyday dining experience!
